Care and activities
Our team is highly skilled in taking care of the physical needs of the residents and their mental health and wellbeing.
In partnership with the resident and their families, we build a daily activities plan.
A range of group and 1:1 sessions enables everyone to enjoy social activities and helped with daily living skills and access the community.
Our aim is to enable our residents to have a voice, be empowered to make decisions and have the autonomy to plan their care.
On admission
We understand that moving into a new residential setting requires a warm welcome and support to settle in. We work closely with the residents and their families so they can get to know the staff, activities and other residents.
We encourage people to get engaged in group and 1:1 activities and the daily running of the home. Each resident has a voice, and as we settle them in, we make a huge effort to learn everything about them, their life story, wishes and aspirations.
Our in-house activities coordinator will meet with the resident and their family to plan activities that they will enjoy. The kitchen staff will also spend time with the resident to understand their dietary requirements.
Each resident is registered with the local GP.
Environment
Beechwood is located on the outskirts of Huddersfield. The home offers enclosed garden space, wheelchair access, the seafront 200 yards away, the town centre within walking distance and a homely welcoming feel.
Beechwood is a beautiful, large Victorian building specifically adapted and extended to enable independent or assisted wheelchair access throughout the home.
Life Skills Room features an interactive screen, virtual reality handsets, iPads, Kindles, an Xbox gaming console and immersive lighting. The room provides residents with engaging experiences to help them learn different skills and maximise their potential.
With extensive, accessible gardens maintained by community volunteer groups during the summer months, you can often find the residents and staff enjoying music and BBQs in the front garden.
Our Team
The team at Beechwood is a vibrant group of experienced staff, many of whom have been working in the home for a long time though we have recently recruited some new staff.
We have a nurse on duty 12-hours a day, 12 hours a night and a team leader on each day; 5 care staff during the day and 2 care staff during the night. Then we have our chef, maintenance, domestic team, kitchen team, volunteer coordinator, activity organiser, physio and administrator.
Staff are very good at understanding when someone is struggling with their mental health, managing challenging behaviour, diffusing situations, identifying risks and reporting issues.
