Our priority is to offer treatment to everyone, instead of only to those who can afford it.
Clinical Massage
Clinical massage is a soft tissue therapy treatment with an ultimate focus being a long term functional outcome. There is evidence based reasons why the treatment is performed whilst ensuring the patient is relaxed has a general sense of well-being following their massage.
Many of the massage techniques are the same as a sports massage, but they are tailored to be specific for everyone. This includes a combination of the following deep tissue, soft tissue release, myofascial release, trigger point and stretching. The overall aim is relaxation, and the massage does not have to be painful to be effective. People often describe a ‘good pain’ as they feel it is addressing their problem. Clinical massage is performed slowly and is very thorough with the therapist specifically listening to the body. The cause of pain is not always located where the pain is felt and other parts of the body may also require treatment where the therapist works harder to help a dysfunction, but this will be explained in depth to you. Following a clinical massage treatment, you will be provided after care with exercise and advice. The therapist will discuss lifestyle issues if appropriate or teach exercises or provide you with postural advice to ensure you are fully involved and in control of your recovery.
Who Can Benefit
Everyone. Our bodies are the most important resource and need to be looked after. Clinical massage will focus on a specific problem, but we aim to treat the whole person for an increased sense of well-being. Anyone with a soft tissue injury, someone who simply requires a reduction in stress and tension where that be due to personal circumstances or prolonged sitting postures at work or driving, clinical massage can help. Clinical massage can help with headaches and help people with long term medical conditions: Osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue and depression through maintenance to help control the conditions. If we feel you would benefit from another health professional, Pilates or personal training then we will ensure we help in a referral program to work alongside them to combine the treatment package to ensure you receive the most effective care. We quite often work alongside chiropractors to ensure both bones and muscles get the same amount of attention for whole body maintenance.
We would also advise you if we felt clinical massage was not appropriate treatment and help refer you to the appropriate medical professional. If you are not sure what you need to help you, as a qualified physiotherapist, you can be assessed and pointed in the right direction. Please feel free to call anytime to discuss injuries or whether clinical massage would be suitable for you. We are always happy to help and provide advice when possible.
