Bryony Park Nursing Home

Built in 1999, Bryony Park Nursing home is a 44-bed facility for residents who require nursing or personal care in the Sunderland region; this can include elderly care for those with dementia, disorders or injuries.

The care home is run by Jill Mullea and a team of highly qualified nurses and care assistants at varying levels, with specialist kitchen staff and personnel trained in COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health). The team deliver exceptional care, achieving the ‘Outstanding’ rating for care on the most recent CQC report.

With a skilled chef, hygiene and nutrition are held to high standards. Residents receive a balanced diet with fresh food and the kitchen has a Level 5 food hygiene rating which has been held for a number of years.

Rooms come with an en-suite, while some also feature phone points – WiFi is available throughout the home. Set in attractive gardens, the nursing home is a short distance from a nearby park and other local amenities. There is a large car park at the front of the facility, and visiting hours are not restricted.

In order to keep residents active, and to promote social habits, staff at Bryony Park regularly arrange activities, including big screen cinema viewings, arts and crafts, armchair aerobics, visits from local churches and more. Trips out to the theatre and to local parks, as well as the seaside, have previously been arranged to stimulate residents who are able to travel. On top of this, family and friends can visit the local area with residents where possible.

Family days are arranged, including coffee mornings once a month, weekly cinema showings and picnics in good weather – partners of residents are also encouraged to visit for meals.

Thank you to all at Bryony Park for the care and consideration shown to my mother during her 6 year stay here. Dementia is a cruel disease, but the staff are well able to cope with this and offer support to all involved. I have nothing but praise for their attention, and know that although this was a one way journey, without that support the route traveled would have been harder and a lot shorter.

Jill was exceptionally rude and would not give prices when I asked and did not reply to emails. Care must be even worse!!

8 week's stay. A very unpleasant experience. We told the management of my mother's medication & informed them that it must not be changed under any circumstances. She has a benign brain tumour, epilepsy & high blood pressure. The medication for epilepsy must be given on a regular basis. Failing this, her seizures will start again. She has been on high blood pressure medication for the majority of her life. Why did the Dr change this medication? Her GP had prescribed a small dose antibiotic to stop urine infections caused by a catheter. The Home's Dr stopped this. Within a very short period of time, she became unwell due to a urine infection & spiked blood pressure. I asked the Manager why the medication had been changed/stopped altogether. Her response was that the Dr must have had a good reason. To date, we do not know why The Home allowed this change to her medication (without consulting us), even though we strictly said not to make any alterations at all to her medication.
