Nestled in the heart of Oxfordshire, within easy reach of the Oxfordshire Cotswolds and enjoying ready access to both London and Birmingham, Bicester is a historic market town like no other. 

Just over 46 minutes from London and 60 minutes from Birmingham by train, Bicester is a perfect choice for commuters who are looking for a relaxed, friendly town without being too far from the big cities.

Bicester enjoys excellent transport links, served by two stations that connect residents with London Marylebone, Oxford, Banbury, and Birmingham Snow Hill. There are plans to add even more destinations, including Milton Keynes, Bedford, and Reading. 

Pioneer Square serves as a hub for Bicester’s regular bus services, which can take you to neighbouring Oxford or as far as Cambridge. For drivers, you’re well served by the M40 which puts you within reach of London in less than an hour, or Birmingham in around 60 minutes. 

Schools in the Area

Bicester has 10 primary schools and 5 secondary schools, with an excellent standard of education: all of the currently available Ofsted ratings are ‘good’. 

Primary schools in Bicester include St Mary’s Catholic Primary School and Southwold Primary School, both rated ‘good’. 

Secondary schools in Bicester include the Bicester School which also enjoys a ‘good’ rating. Students also have the choice to specialise in topics such as business and engineering thanks to the Bicester School’s new Bicester Technology Studio. 

The town is also well served by Banbury and Bicester College, which offers a variety of Higher National Certificates and Diplomas, Foundation Degrees, and vocational courses. 

Attractions in Bicester

Bicester is best known for its shopping village, a picturesque open air shopping centre first opened in 1995. Since then, it has played host to fashion brands such as Prada, Gucci, Dior, and more. The huge number of outlets, as well as the cafes and restaurants, means the village is a destination in itself. 

Those looking for an alternative shopping experience will enjoy Pioneer Square, Bicester’s newest shopping centre. Opened in 2013, it was named after the town’s 23 Pioneer Regiment and has since played host to more independent shops as well as a Vue cinema boasting seven screens, all with 4K picture quality. 

And when you’re looking for an adventure, Bicester is the perfect home base from which to explore the Oxfordshire Cotswolds. History buffs will be delighted by historic sites such as Blenheim Palace and Rousham House with its beautiful gardens. Animal lovers will enjoy the Wildlife Park and Birdland Park. Amongst the many restaurants in Bicester, Denis Restaurant stands out as an excellent Turkish restaurant perfect for both groups and couples, and there’s something for everyone on the menu. Bicester Village boasts a number of exceptional restaurants too. For everything from breakfast to cocktails, you won’t go wrong visiting The Farmshop Restaurant and Cafe in Bicester Village. The owners make use of both local and seasonal ingredients, and they have a range of vegetarian options too. You’ll also find Shan Shui in the Village, which pays homage to the best of Asian cuisine using fresh, locally-sourced food, alongside La Tua Pasta, a multi-award-winning Italian restaurant that makes their fresh pasta every night! 

Anyone who wants a drink will find a number of excellent watering holes, including the Shakespeare Bicester, an excellent pub for anyone who wants a drink as well as excellent food and a welcoming and family-friendly environment. The Plough offers an excellent real ale selection, and for those looking for a late night, the Tropic Bar serves food, cocktails, and fantastic vibes until the early morning.
