Please meet the Team of twenty-two people who work at this Pub. They all recognise the significance of this important Award and are mightily uplifted to know that it was their customers who made it happen.

This significant Award is, in effect, a ‘thank you’ to our Team from our Faithful Customers.

Quite naturally, our Team responds with sincere thanks to our Faithful Customers for their generous response and to The Countryside Alliance for mounting this nationwide campaign promoting the wellbeing of ‘everything countryside’.

The Award was presented on Wednesday, 19th. June 2019 in the Cholmondeley Room, House of Lords, London. Greg Algar (Director), Steve Plews (Manager), Simon Carter (Head Chef) and Alex Brufton (Bar Manager) attended.

THE COUNTRYSIDE ALLIANCE AWARDS 2019 ( the Rural Oscars ) — the story:

In late 2018, ‘Nominations’ were sent to The Countryside Alliance by many of our customers.

Our customers wrote their recommendations, completed Nomination Forms and submitted them to the Countryside Alliance ‘Rural Oscars’ Campaign.

In January 2019, the Regional Finalists were announced — throughout the eight regions, only thirty–three pubs had reached this ‘Finalist’ stage — and only four of those pubs are in the East of England Region — one of them being the Dambusters Inn.

During March–April 2019, Judges from the Countryside Alliance Awards Campaign visited all of the
thirty–three Finalist Pubs for evaluation.

On 05th April 2019, the Judge visited the Dambusters Inn where Greg Algar (Director) and Steve Plews (Manager) were interviewed.

On 10th May 2019, the Regional Winner in the East of England Pub Category was published on the Campaign website — the Dambusters Inn had won the East of England title.

On 11th May 2019, in the post — arrived the official invitation . . . “from The Lord Mancroft requesting the pleasure of the company of Mr. Greg Algar and Mr. Steve Plews at a reception to celebrate the winners of the Countryside Alliance Awards in the Cholmondeley Room, House of Lords, London, on behalf of the Countryside Alliance in association with Farmers Guardian and the Daily Telegraph, on Wednesday 19 June 2019.”

Pub has some very interesting objects linked to the famous dambusters squadron, on display and dotted all round the pub. There was a great atmosphere there when we visited as it was their real ale night with live music in their outdoor courtyard. Nice selection of food available, beautifully cooked and presented. Staff were extremely busy but still managed to look after us without delay. I would certainly recommend that you book in advance to save potential disappointment.

Was really looking forward to trying this place, having driven past it many times. To say my wife and I were underwhelmed would be an understatement. Things started out bad as there are no parking facilities so we had to park some distance away on a fairly narrow and busy road. The table next to ours was way too close, so people passing had to edge their way past sideways. This meant that their backsides were hanging over our table as they passed. The food arrived quickly but was not particularly good, both taste and presentation. I had slow cooked belly pork with black pudding and it just doesn't work. Also, the peas on my plate were quite clearly out of a tin. My wife had garlic mushroom starter. This turned out to be a plate of slop. Her main was chicken with potatoes and leak, nothing special about it. No additional vegetables included. There is a huge disparity between the price they charge and the quality of the food served. I won't be going back and advised my daughter and son in law not to bother. The slop you can see in the picture, along with a diet coke each, cost over £50.

What an amazing place. Took my Dad who is here from New Zealand, it is somewhere he has always wanted to visit, the pub landlord have him a tour and explained the history of it all. Made the experience even more special than it already was for him. Thank you so much ♡
