We got off to a good start good communications back and forth but after we had our site visit we thought it odd that a timeframe to complete the calculations wasn't provided but we had noted to our engineer on multiple occasions that we wanted to commence the work the following week. We then proceeded to need to chase for 3 consecutive days not receiving an update or call back on the first 2 days. Then when we finally did get through we were told that the time frame would be a further 3 weeks. This was completely unacceptable and I found another firm who had this sorted for us in 3 days and cancelled our agreement with Gawn.

Came to site to see a wall we needed some drawings being done for. We were under the impression he was coming to see the work needed so he could quote. Instead he sent us a two pages of notes we never asked for and invoiced us £500! Looking at the other reviews it seems we’re not the only ones with a bad experience. My advice would be to avoid!!

As an Architect, i seek to work with engineers who can provide good solutions to challenges and carry out their work well. Gawn are my preffered engineer to work with and I enjoy working with Mike especially as he always makes time to chat through designs and options and always gives me confidence to have a competent engineer on board our projects.

I am carrying out an extension for a client who have used Gawn Associates for the structural drawings. The drawings are excellent and easy to read and understand. I have taken the ground floor rear wall completely out, we required new pad foundations to support the UC Columns that were supporting 2no, 6000mm steels holding the back of the house up. Until the existing foundations are exposed you dont know if they are adequate. Ours were not, so we had to dig new foundations. Marcus Garner our designer and contact was on leave at this stage of the works. Leslie Gawn was on hand to give advice and brilliant in responding during Marcus's absence. On the job I am carrying out we also have 4500mm doors across the new extension, so we again have 2 UC Columns and a steel attached above. With this many steels and connections, you are always going to have questions and need advice along the way. Marcus has been absolutely brilliant in answering all my queries and putting answers in writing immediatly, which is critical to cover yourself and issue the advice to building control. If you need any drawings supplied, go with Gawn's. The team at Gawn Associates go above and beyond what you would expect. Thanks again Marcus. Regards Terry Baker
