Madam Mayor Shaheena Haroon was voted into office on 25th May 2022 and her first engagement as Mayor of Bury was to cut the ribbon to reopen the historic Hamers Arms after the significant refurbishment was completed on 27th May 2022 when the doors were opened once again.
The new licensee Jonathan Wolstenholme (pictured) was delighted to have the Mayor attend the grand reopening.
The Hamers Arms is a Traditional English Pub venue steeped in local history. It was renamed to the Hamers in 1848 in honour of Richard Hamer the local dignitary that purchased the 4 Summerseat Mills from Sir Robert Peels family who relocated to Nantwich. It was renamed by the then Publican Bernard Wolstenholme which has now been fully refurbished and opened by his namesake in 2022.
Richard Hamer built Summerseat House in 1836 which was more recently used as a pupil learning centre and is a Grade II listed building. He also built a school for the more vulnerable children of the community and contributed significantly to building of a Chapel, there was investment in local housing which created a rich with employment community where prosperity thrived.
It is with this history in mind that we thoroughly update and modernise this wonderful pub but keeping the overall traditional feel.

Mark “Chopper” Harris5 StarI paid a visit to the Hamers Arms today to have a look at the new refurbishment and it’s absolutely fantastic. They have managed to breathe new life into this little diamond which sits in the heart of Summerseat and i had the most delightful experience. I had the sirloin steak withe peppercorn sauce which was delicious, beautifully cooked and presented. The front of house staff were polite and attentive as were the bar staff. The chef also came out to speak to me and asked how the food was, a nice little touch right there. The licensee, Mr Wolstenholme, came over to speak to me and welcomed me to the pub. He, and his staff, went out of their way to make my visit a very enjoyable one and i have made the Hamers Arms my new favourite pub where I’ll be making regular visits. William Keane4 StarWe went in today with my mother in law for some lunch. The place looks absolutely stunning with he refurb and I wish it well. The new chef is still finding her feet, but the food was delicious. The chips were a little cold and slightly overdone - which would be fine with chunky chips, but not fries.
The mother in law had the haddock and said it was one of the best she has ever had. The batter was absolutely perfect. A big thumbs up for the rhubarb crumble as well. Very nice. We will definitely be back - to check the chips. :)Monday 6th June 2022
Mark Harris5 StarI have made numerous visits to the newly refurbished Hamers Arms since it opened.
I have tried various items from their menu and found them all to be absolutely delicious and well presented. I would literally try everything on there !! Their choice of drinks is superb, Guinness being my favourite, cask ales and ‘Neck Oil’ are fantastic drinks. The staff are really attentive and courteous which adds to the experience, Jason, after preparing the food came to ask if i was happy. He has done this every time which i find a very nice touch. There’s also a really nice beer garden that doubles up as a sun trap when it’s hot.There is karaoke on as well as quiz night and featured singers on Saturday, Jonathan (Licensee) and his team have gone all out to make the Hamers a really great place to visit.
