My mum has been in Hollybank for over 3 Months when she was transferred for a care home in Manchester after it was closing down. I looked at over 10 different care homes in the greater Manchester area and found hollybank the best one not only the facilities are luxury but the staff where excellent. I visit my Mum three times a week and every time i go she has done a different activity from yoga to bingo. the food looks amazing and there are always lots to choose from. I am so glad i made the right decision.

I last posted a review on Holly bank care home about 15 weeks ago. I gave a rating of 1 star then, due to lack of care and empathy to my blind grandad. When the review became noticed by the management, I was asked to remove it and they would discuss my complaints. However, all the complaints raised prior to the posting where ignored and the family was left feeling like we could not approach the staff. We had a meeting and I removed the review as they said the care plan for my grandad would be re-accessed and the issues raised would dealt with. The ongoing care started slowly to improve. However, as my grandad was looking quite poorly and was saying he wasn’t well, we requested a doctor to come and the staff on duty said he was fine and it was not an emergency. One particular day I had been sat with my grandad all morning and left for his lunchtime as I had been told I could not stay during meal times to help him. I was gone for approx. 1 hour to come back to my grandad having a cut too his head from a manager, walking him into his bedroom (YOU DON’T WALK A BLINDMAN ANYWHERE, YOU GUIDE THEM!) When I asked what had happened the response I got was, “oh sorry it was me”. A few days later my grandad’s legs started to swell due to lack of movement etc. I asked a member of staff as I also noticed his stomach was swollen. The member off staff went to speak to the manager who refused to come over and told the carer his legs need to be elevated. Why was this not noticed and recorded whilst washing? Surely this is a quality of care? I then started to raise my grandad’s legs up and kept moving them as he wasn’t very mobile and had shortness of breath. Whilst I was doing these 2 members of staff started to smirk at my actions. After asking for a doctor now over a period of days, we took upon ourselves to ring an emergency doctor as he clearly wasn’t well. (TEAM LEADER WAS NOT HAPPY ABOUT THIS). The doctor came that evening and got an emergency ambulance out. This resulted in Pneumonia and chest problems. As the hospital didn’t have enough beds he was discharged back to the care home where we spend a few hours fighting for a better care home. I left my daughter to travel back with her great grandad in the ambulance and I went back the care home to meet them on their arrival back. I rang the buzzer to be greeted by the team leader who took one look and walked away from the door only to send a member of staff to say “sorry karen but your grandad isn’t here so you can’t come in”. I told her he was on his way. She then went back to discuss and said we could then wait in his room only. Upon his arrival, I greeted him and my daughter at the door and told the staff that he was back. He was placed in bed by the ambulance staff and nobody came to ask him if he was ok until about 5hrs later. Furthermore, I came to visit my grandad but he was still in bed, he looked very ill. I went for the manager who said she would ring a doctor (Why was this not done earlier, he was clearly ill). The ambulance came he was admitted to hospital and we were told he only had days to live. Sadly, he passed away on the 15th Sept 17. Nobody rang my grandma or sent any cards or flowers. There was only one member of staff that found me on social media to send her regards. (Thankyou Trudy) Regards to the review giving a 5-star rating this was placed by the registered manager, I understand whilst her mum is a resident she surly should stay impartial to a review. This review was only posted days after my first 1 star review was removed!!!! As you can see this letter as not been written in haste!

I am appalled at not being able to speak with my mother, when mum first went into this nursing home, I was promised and assured that I would be able to have skype conversations with mum. This is extremely important to me as I live in France and can't visit very often . I still do NOT have a skype connection with mum. Today it is mums birthday, I have just rang up to wish her happy birthday. You would have thought this would be possible. But NO, I am now being told that the telephone connection does NOT reach my mums room !!!!! How damn difficult is to take a mobile to mum !! I am so upset and absolutely bewildered. WHAT sort of telecommunications do they use at Holly Bank !!! It is beyond belief. However, I have been assured ( yet again) that one of the staff will let mum know that I have rang. The question is, do I believe them ???? HAPPY BIRTHDAY MUM, maybe I will get to chat with you later today. Lots of love Jackie xxxx

Absolutely disgusting ‼️‼️‼️ If there was a -5 for rating this place would get it, the way they thought was ACCEPTABLE care was dam right abuse ! My grandad did not deserve the care he got from this home he was a lovely gently kind hearted man who would always say please and thank you with the up most gratitude ! An for them to say he is disruptive when a man after 80yrs looses his eye sight how do you expect him to see where he is going or what he is doing, when the Manger is supposed to help walk him to his room an then he ends up with a cut on his head ! As she obviously wasn’t paying attention to him. This is a absolutely failure of duty of care. After numerous attempts of my great grandma asking for a doctor, for a few day and constantly being told he is fine, for us to take it upon our selves to call a doctor, he was taken to hospital for us to be told he was severely dehydrated and had pneumonia, unfortunately for lack of beds at the hospital he was then sent back to the Home (don’t want to say care Home as they wouldn’t know what care meant if it slapped them in the face). My family would go up morning dinner and tea, to make sure he was getting the care and support he needed. After being back at the Home for about a week he was later taken to hospital again with further illness, from the lack of care, when he sadly passed away. I honestly believe if it wasn’t for the "care" he received maybe this could of been prevented. As from being in that Home I’ve never seen someone deteriorate so quickly as he did!! This place needs to be closed an the staff need to think about the people that are living there, they are humans with hearts and feeling not just old grumpy people they deserve dignity an love and attention and most importantly the right care ‼️‼️‼️‼️ ‼️‼️‼️‼️ AVOID AT ALL COSTS ‼️‼️‼️‼️
