An exemplar of medieval elegance

This elegant medieval church sits next to the great Baroque stately home of Burley-on-the-Hill built in the 1690s, but the church itself dates from four centuries earlier. It was largely rebuilt by JL Pearson in 1868-70 but evidence of the Medieval building remains, notably in the tower, the arcades and the fine fifteenth-century font.

The church contains a beautiful eighteenth-century memorial to Lady Charlotte Finch, who was a governess to George III's children and also the inventor of the wooden jigsaw!

There is also a notable clock by Joseph Knibb.

Utterly charming Churches Conservation Trust church with splendid memorials, stained glass and a divine statue at the east end to Lady Charlotte Finch, governess to George III's children and creator of the jigsaw puzzle

As old as notre dame. The prayers over the centuries have permeated the stone and you can feel the longing for the infinite meaning
