Kelsall Community Centre

The Kelsall Community Centre is located in Chester Road, Kelsall CW6 0SB, opposite St Philips Parish Church. Its principal accommodation consists of a main hall (75 x 35 ft), a Committee Room (25 x 15 ft) and a well-appointed kitchen. Photographs of the three main rooms in the building are provided on this page, along with an external view; a Floor Plan is available by following the link.

The facility is managed by a dedicated, voluntary Management Committee and used regularly by various clubs and organisations, including the Parish Council, Badminton, Table Tennis, dancing groups, Bridge, Craftwork, Indoor Bowls and Tennis, Karate, various other fitness and wellbeing groups, Mother and Toddler groups and numerous other village social events. It is also bookable for private parties, hosts annual events such as the Beer Festival and Cheshire Folk Festival, and can be used for charitable events. See the calendar of current events at the Centre at the bottom of this page.

All bookings for the Centre must adhere to the Rules and Standard Conditions of Hire, and a guide of how to use the facilities is available at The User Guide. The latest rates (with effect from 1 April 2022) are outlined in the table below:

The Centre has been catering for a multiplicity of users and user groups, mainly local, since it opened in 1994, and is a much-appreciated focus of the community. Rentals have always been kept as low as possible while supporting maintenance of the building in good repair, and despite the various effects of recent (full and partial) lockdowns, the facility has undergone considerable upgrading and modernising, most funded by generous grants of support from the State. More still needs to be done, however, and the Committee continues to seek grant funding or local donations as well as to use some of its accumulated reserves capital to ensure that the Centre remains safe, secure and accessible (all to appropriate national standards) and fully meeting the needs of the local community. Some financial reserves have to be maintained, though, for emergency maintenance and perhaps to match offers of grant funding, and that is ensured by constructing an annual budget for each financial year (which begins on 1 September). We remain aware too, from the results of a survey of users and local residents made a few years ago, what the community considers to be priority needs for the Centre.

For those interested in history, the Kelsall and District Rural Amenities Society (KADRAS) was founded in 1969, and when the first edition of KADRAS News was published in March 1974, it included an article by John Edwards, who advocated “a Community Centre to cater for the needs of the village....” It was, however, another 20 years before the Kelsall Community Centre was opened in January 1994, for the benefit of the inhabitants of Kelsall and its neighbourhood for meetings, lectures and other forms of recreation, and leisure time occupation. The story of how the Community Centre became a reality makes fascinating reading, see History of Kelsall's Community Centre, but all can rest assured that the totality of John Edwards’ original vision for a village Centre remains at the core of all we provide and do.

The present Committee and their contact details are listed beneath.
