Patisserie Valerie all started with Theophile Vermeirsch (Theo) who was born in Antwerp in 1898. He first came to London with his family as refugees from Belgium in the First World War. During this time, he worked as a pastry chef.

The family returned to Belgium some time in 1918 and in 1922 he married Esther Van Gyseghem, born in 1900 in Oostende. Together they returned to London and opened a Belgian patisserie in 1926 on the corner of Dean Street and Old Compton Street in London’s Soho and called it "Patisserie Valerie”.

All the desserts look amazing so I've expected more quality for them but I've got disappointed. The cakes have too much sugar, it is all sugar. Also, you can feel too much salt 🧂 on them. They are also dry, I finished my coffee and coke trying to eat the cake... If we will repeat someday will be to have a good coffee ( it's really good) and because of how the personal treat us, but not for the cafe.

The staff were polite and efficient but didn't talk much. We enjoyed the halloumi salad and the tuna melt but the cakes weren't that great, they seem very appetising to the eye but once on your plate, the taste is bland and not worth it. We tried the frangipane tart and the pecan and walnut tart. Maybe the other cakes are better. I don't think we will go back.

Really good iced lattes, the staff are really lovely. They go out of their way for their customers, definitely recommend it to everyone. Get a oat milk caramel iced latte!

Very average chocolate cake and tea. The cake priced at the exorbitant price of £5. I was expecting something special for that price but I have had better from the supermarket. Overpriced 'milkshake' too, which seemed to be nesquik. Wouldn't be rushing back. Earl Grey tea didn't taste like Earl Grey either....
