Rhianna Grace5 StarFound this gorgeous little pub by chance yesterday and bf and i were both starving, so thought we’d give it a try. First time visiting and will definitely be back for loads of reasons:
Atmosphere - really warm welcome, evidently a bit of a hub for the locals who were all lovely and chatty, but not like some places where it can be intimidating if you’re not from the area. There was also some nice chill Sunday music playing over the pa, not too loud or too quiet. Just right
Staff - it was fairly busy when we arrived and they had a few bookings, but Jess and the whole team were really accommodating and got us a table really quickly. Service was impeccable, everyone was really friendly and affable and if we weren’t driving we definitely would’ve stayed for a few more drinks based off the staff alone :)
Food/Drink - HUGE selection (which I’m sometimes a bit dubious about) and everything tasted really fresh. Not a long wait for food, and everything was nice n hot when it arrived. I had the rump steak which was cooked perfectly (and I was banging on about how amazing the onion rings were for the rest of the day!) and the peppercorn sauce might be too spicy for some palates but was just right for me. bf’s gammon was massive, and had absolutely no complaints - polished the lot off! Drinks were lovely and cold, and served with a smile( just what you after a long walk in the country.
All in all, we had a lovely time, it really made our day and we’ll definitely be back :)Monday 25th April 2022
jane jones5 StarServers were very friendly and informative
All food was cooked to
Cheese n onion pie was deep and tasty
Steak and ale pie was crammed with meat and I choose chips and veg with mine.
Chicken Kiev was crispy served with chips and salad and extra garlic butter.
Definitely be back next weekFriday 2nd September 2022
Sarah3 StarThere are a lot of reviews about how good the food is but I would not have a meal there again. The food was bland and we were a party of 7 who all said the same. The toilet has a basket of flannels for drying hands which is what I have at home but in a pub you need more than 10, they quickly ran out and did not replace them. Parking is not easy, you have to park wherever you can on side streets. One of my guests did point out that her dessert was bland when staff asked but her reply was 'oh we've not had any complaints before' and walked away. I felt this was not good customer service. We eat out regularly but will not go there again.Monday 25th April 2022
Paul M5 StarGood food and friendly staff. Recommended. A bit off the beaten track of you don't know the area but worth a visit. Quaint little pub with a varied menu.Sunday 8th May 2022
amy Groves1 StarWe came here for food after a lovely walk on the moors.
Very beautiful, old pub!
Very disappointed. Poor service, waited quite a while for food only for the chips to be luke warm. The sliver of steak and ale pie was alright. The veg was perfect unfortunatly it wasn't brought out at the same time which was surprising since we were across from the kitchens.
Our server did offer to get us fresh chips but we had already waited so long for our original chips.
I'm certain it's not how things are usually run because the other reviews are great (thats why we came!)
What a shame, we've eaten better at Wetherspoons for half the price.Sunday 4th September 2022
