A disappointing stay.

Ok bullet points a go go!, -Location is very cute- very close to local pubs within a very short walking distance -bedding and bed very comfy! - fridge in room - The animals in the garden are wonderful, very cute

i wanted to treat my partner for his birthday at a quiet chill place as he is a teacher and deserves some restbite. They were aware of this as i advised them after booking the room via booking.com

-Rescue dogs downstairs barked at the slightest noise when moving around the room in the morn -Their cat rested it's cute self on my partners car bonnett, many scratch marks - Whomever replied to my partners message didn't express any real empathy and didn't apologise.. and just said ' naughty cat' and they hoped it would polish out... - Breakfast is expensive!.. we went to a cafe 10 min walk in the village, very tasty vegetarian breakfast for half the price -on the last morning i sent a message asking for replenishment of tea and sugar, one hour later i get a response but it was too late as we were leaving to check out- again no apology

- The room was not serviced on our first day!??! - when we returned from our scheduled day trip the bed had not been made, the room and not been swept, hoovered or services wiped down. For the cost of the room I found this V disrespectful.

- no dairy free milk available in the fridge?! - suggest that you provide some in a little jug with cling film on top.. assuming people like black tea and coffee is bad hosting.

-Room cleanliness- Black mould around bedroom window...! and evidence of black mould in the bathroom on the ceiling above the shower. Pretty disgusting that this had not been treated and cleaned considering the money charged for the room.

- shower was looked luxurious but the temperature fluctuated whilst in use - crack in ceiling over bed which could easily be patched up and repainted over.., - dressing gown had NOT been cleaned and looked like someone previous had wiped their snot/bogeys on it - coffee machine didn't work, just gave out hot water when the pod was installed

attention to detail is lacking- they care about animals, and making money.

Had a fabulous birthday afternoon tea with my partner at The Base Vegan Retreat! The Base is a gorgeous oasis tucked away on the outskirts of Bristol where rescue animals run free and you can get up close and say hello to them! The owners were absolutely lovely and clearly hugely passionate about what they’ve built and the many animals they’ve rescued from suffering. The food was delicious and it’s so nice to go somewhere like this as a treat, where you can eat everything as a vegan rather than be an afterthought. Although we were only there for the afternoon we did get to check out the cabin for overnight stays and it’s incredible! I think we’ll be back for a cabin stay and hot tub in the winter… Hugely recommend!

This was an absolutely delightful place to stay. The luxury cabin has two double beds, a drench shower, a wood stove heater, a well thought-out kitchen and a gorgeous back deck. Plus lots of books and games, and even a guitar! The highlight for us, though, was the animals. Fiaz and Jacqui have done a miraculous job with this sanctuary for rescue animals - it’s amazing to see dozens of creatures from traumatic backgrounds now living happily and healthily. We absolutely love rabbits and were in BUNNY HEAVEN. The animals are right there, next to the cabin. It’s just a wonderful, wonderful place. Oh, and the home-cooked room service was divine.

What a gem of a place. A fantastic luxury cabin surrounded by rescue rabbits, ducks, chickens and turkeys. The pictures on the website do not do the place justice. Jackie and Fiaz are wonderful hosts and chefs. The hot tub is a bonus. Highly recommend this place for a short break with friends or family. Companion animals are also welcome.

Had the most wonderful birthday weekend staying at The Base Vegan Retreat. The area was very peaceful and I felt really relaxed and secure. I enjoyed being able to look out onto all the lovely animal residents at the sanctuary. It was very easy to find and we had no issue parking outside. The owners were very warm and welcoming. They were very interesting to talk to and nothing was too much of an ask. We stayed in the double room with a garden view, but we also got to look around the standard double room as we had friends staying there. They were a good size and spotless! The beds, I believe, were king size and very comfortable which meant I had a wonderful night's sleep. The showers were lovely and spacious with good water pressure, the bathroom had an electric toothbrush charger built into the wall which was super handy! I appreciated the Smart TV in the rooms which meant we were able to cast our phones to watch whatever we liked. We had the sausage sandwiches for breakfast. We also had cupcakes, juice and smoothies. Everything was absolutely delicious. My non-vegan partner also enjoyed them very much. The only issue for us personally was that we were spending a lot on taxis because we had made a lot of plans which were based in Bristol city centre which is around a 20-30 minute drive away (...and as the birthday girl I had no intention of driving!). There are good bus links into town and there is a bus stop very close by at the top of the hill, but depending on where you are off to, you may need to allow yourself around an hour travel time. However, that's not a reflection on the accommodation, but something to be mindful of when booking if you don't drive or want to take the car into town. For me, it was a massive comfort to be able to stay somewhere where I didn't have to worry if any of the food or toiletries were vegan. I don't think you need to be vegan to enjoy this place as my partner and friends were not vegan and they had a lovely time. We would love to stay here again. I've already been eyeing up the cabin for our next visit! Thank you The Base Vegan Retreat for having us! And thank you for everything you do for the animals.

We visited, The Base Retreat, for a couple of day’s relaxation. The room we stayed in was very clean. It had an en suite. Coffee and tea making facilities provided and a mini fridge. The bed was extremely comfortable. We had a couple of meals pre booked and they were delicious. This was our first visit at The Base Retreat and we will be returning when we visit Bristol/ Bath again. The hosts were friendly and welcoming. We enjoyed seeing the animals living their best life.
