The first Factory Shop I went in opened in 1994 in Tiptree, Essex, England (I believe the brand had already had been in existence since the 60s) and you could get interesting, really good (and sometimes unusual) high quality household items -- from bubble bath to pens -- at discounted prices. Alas, sometime around 2010 the brand was 'plebbed', co-incidentally when it adopted the 'TOFS' abbreviation. Since then mono-branded products made especially for the shop have brought the quality down in order to maintain the price point. Previously 'seconds' (products where a mistake had been made but nonetheless still of good quality) were stocked in the 'Original' shops of the 90s and 00s. You would do as well to visit TKMaxx in Inverness to find such products that TOFS once was renowned for. However if you like Poundland-style products you might as well go into the extended Poundstretcher on the opposite side of the street.
