Perched at the top of Tankerton Slopes, The Royal promises a feast for all the senses - serving up sublime fresh food and drink with a side of panoramic sea views.
The pub’s garden offers one of the best vantage points in the area and makes a great place to idly watch boats go by with a drink - cask ales, cocktails and world wines providing plenty of choice at the bar.
The restaurant, meanwhile, is renowned for delicious British dishes, with a raft of delectable daily specials making the most of local ingredients.
The fabulous fare and super sea views draw visitors from far and wide, but The Royal is a hub of activity for Tankerton locals too. Regular quiz nights are held here every month and regular jazz dinners take place on the last Thursday of the month.

petethevan4 StarNice pub on the sea front. Decent food. My beef (as always) is that it's a Shep's pub and therefore only sells Shep's ales - which I'm not too fond of. But that's just me. Plenty of space inside and outside. Looking on the notice boards, they seems to a fair amount of evening entertainment.Thursday 14th July 2022
Jon M5 StarMy family and I were on holiday for the weekend and had been recommended to go for lunch at Jojo's down the road, but it was too busy to get a table. We came to The Royal instead, and we were so glad that we did! (No shade to Jojo's, of course, it looked great in there as well!)
The service at The Royal was great. Friendly staff, we were served quickly, and they let us know there might be a 30 minute or so wait or for food, but it came in under half that - always under promise and over deliver! Staff were attentive, but not at all fussy during our meal. Great stuff!
The food was incredible. We were expecting standard pub grub, but this was genuinely one of the best meals I've had in ages! In particular the grilled fish (Sardines and mackerel) was absolutely delicious. The portions were great, and the prices were very reasonable.
Finally, the cherry on the cake is the stunning view overlooking Tankerton beach. You can grab a table out the front of The Royal and stare out to sea and take in the bay as you drink your pint. It's a really beautiful sight and, on as hot a day it was when we were there, it almost felt like being in another country.

Shareen Beech4 StarGreat out door spot at Tankerton. The hard cider is delicious. I had a small order of fish & chips that was lovely. The fish was light & crispy with a just right amount of chips. My friend had the Grilled Chicken Cesar sandwich, which he greatly enjoyed. I will return to The Royal.Friday 22nd July 2022
