Used to be the best car hire place around. The prices were the lowest by far (for long weekends, a week-month). And the range of cars were better than any other company. It used to be all BMW’s and Range Rovers (in the saloon and above range). Recently when I’ve checked the choice of vehicles seems to have been reduced, and the prices have gone up and are similar to anywhere else. However the customer service at the Huddersfield branch was always bang on

Please check regarding your credit card type before you book and also they will require a deposit on that credit card that is to be used. I hired through a 3rd party company (ARGUS CAR HIRE). I was asked if I wanted an automatic car on arrival and I said no as I had not requested that. Also that my credit card could not be used that I had booked with, it was sorted and I used the card with a £500 deposit. Take note of all the marks on the car and agree it with the representative. The car had also been used by a heavy smoker although it was a 19 plate and smoking is not allowed in the cars.

I booked a car, it was only when I arrived to collect they asked me for £500 deposit. They weren’t helpful and then when I said I don’t have £500 I was told I won’t get my money back for 5 working days. I am fuming as I now have to urgently find a way to get to my kids in another city. They should state when you go to the website there is a large deposit or I wouldn’t of bothered booking.

Very disappointed with the service I received! I was told that I would receive a car similar to my 1 series BMW and was given a Hyundai Tucso which was nowhere near similar. I then asked for a replacement and received a Ford Fiesta to which I agreed as I had no other choice because they had nothing else available! Anyway, the Ford Fiesta arrived with a strong smell of smoke I mean come on how can you provide a courtesy car that stinks of smoke! I’m a non smoker so you can imagine how uncomfortable it was for me. I called Thrifty nearly every day that week asking for a replacement or if they could ask their other branches but of course “they were all in the same boat” I hardly used the car due to the smell as it was really strong and off putting. Won’t be using this company again! Disgusting!

Price ok for small van. Make sure you have all the ID and documents etc as they are overly strict and will become easily agitated if you question even a minor detail. Went to pick up van at a booked in time and had to wait for ages.
