TOWN AND GOWN

The Town and Gown is a unique and must try experience in Cambridge open from early ’til late. The name derives from the two distinct communities of any university town, the local population and the university dwelling community and the ever improving relationship between them. Our Town and Gown is a space for both to meet, drink, eat and revel.

The Theatre is a revival of the building’s history former Arts Cinema from 1933 trading as the Cosmopolitan Cinema. Our Black Box Theatre located on the top floor of the venue is a wonderfully intimate fringe theatre with an abundance of shows and experiences from the moment we open the doors.

From a casual lunch with friends to party nibbling, elegant dining to dirty dancing – locally brewed beers and spirits to handmade cocktails, fringe theatre to Gin Tasting, traditional piano playing for intimate dinners to live bands to party with!

Please take your seats, the performance is about to begin!

Visited plenty of times for drinks and a few times for food. Service is quick at the bar, it's unclear when drinks are brought to the table and when one should wait for them at the bar, it's inconsistent (for hot drinks). Either way the staff are very friendly and get the job done. Food is OK, takes a bit of time to get out to you. Toilets are on the first floor and the interior Deco is pretty impressive. Probably won't go back for food but generally the experience is good.

The Sunday roast was a pool of gravy. It was so heartbreaking because the food was cooked very well, it was just ruined by being drowned in gravy. I would suggest the chef put the gravy on the side in a gravy boat, as they do for the other dishes, like the chicken pie. Also, 45 minutes wait for our food was too long considering the restaurant wasn’t overly busy.

Great night - gin tasting and musicals. Great venue - bigger than you’d expect and pretty trend. Upstairs is a cool more private bar - for use by people going into the theatre.

Wonderful looking venue, friendly staff and great pub food. Have yet to go to the theatre but will for my next visit. Great place!

Firstly, the mixed drinks are a 5 or 6 star. The mojito and the Long Island were great. The food we tried to order was not available and the items we eventually ordered were ok, but lacked a lot of flavour.
