Voyage Care: Red House

Red House provides care and support to seven people with a range of needs, including learning disabilities, autism, Prader–Willi syndrome, mental health issues and epilepsy. We also support people with challenging behaviours.

Supporting you

The people who live here are encouraged to maintain and develop skills, interests, friendships and activities which maximise their independence. Detailed person-centred planning gives individuals the opportunity to pursue interests and activities of their choice, which will enhance their quality of life, both within the home and using facilities in the surrounding area.

Facilities

Our home is a large Grade II listed detached property with gardens on three sides. We have seven double bedrooms, each one with a full ensuite bathroom, which has either a bath or a shower.

We actively encourage everyone to bring their own belongings and to decorate their room in the style they prefer. There is a large lounge with ample seating for all residents, where people can choose to spend time together, watch television or DVDs and listen to music, talking to their friends, etc.

The activity room has access its own kitchenette, which is equipped with a fridge, microwave and a drinks making area, allowing resident access to refreshments 24/7. In the activity room resident can work on craft projects, do some drawings, watch TV, or read a book.

There is also a spacious dining room with a domestic kitchen attached, where residents can be supported to learn how to prepare varied and well balanced meals, if they so wish. But for those who are unable to do so, staff will prepare and serve freshly cooked homemade meals daily. All resident take part in putting the weekly menu together and there is always an alternative for anyone who does not want the main choice.

Everyone is supported by staff to carry out household tasks and participate in all areas relating to the management of and practical running of their home. Individuals are encouraged to share their views through general interaction and the more formal process of the key worker systems and regular house meetings. The gardens have seating areas which is used a lot in the summer, to catch the rays; and where we sometimes have alfresco dining, weather permitting!
